KADOKAWA postpones ‘Sentenced to Be a Hero’ anime until 2026 – live stream with more info soon
Just a couple of months after its first trailer released, we have unfortunate news for would-be viewers of action adventure fantasy anime series ‘Sentenced to Be a Hero‘ today.
According to KADOKAWA, Sentenced to Be a Hero has been postponed from its planned October premiere to January 2026.
No reason was given for the delay.
When the anime (titled Yūsha-kei ni Shosu: Chōbatsu Yūsha 9004-tai Keimu Kiroku in Japan) hits, however, it will start with a one-hour opening episode. So that is something to look forward to.
New details about the Sentenced to be a Hero anime will also be forthcoming when KADOKAWA runs a special live stream on July 26th.
Sentenced to be a Hero anime details
The anime is adapted from Rocket Shoukai and Mephisto‘s light novel series, which is being published in English via Yen Press.
It is being directed by Hiroyuki Takashima (episode director of Mushoku Tensei), with Kenta Ihara (Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-) in charge of both series composition and screenplay, and Takeru Noda (DanDaDan) designing the characters.
Animation is by the absolutely wonderful Studio Kai (Super Cub), so I hold out great hopes for this one.
As for the Sentenced to be a Hero plot, it sounds like it may be quite a change from the typical fantasy adventure:
“The Punishment of Heroes” is the name of the most severe penalty.
These “heroes” are forced to stand on the frontlines of the battle against the Demon King Phenomenon, forbidden even to die, fighting endlessly.
The Penal Hero Unit is composed entirely of broken individuals—a berserker who has fought for centuries without rest, the worst thief in history, a con artist turned political prisoner, a self-proclaimed king and terrorist, an assassin with a zero percent success rate, and more.
Their leader, Zylo Folbartz, a former Holy Knight Commander, encounters the “Sword Goddess” Theolitta—whose very existence had been concealed—amidst the desperate war against the Demon King Phenomenon.
As the Holy Knights are crushed in the hopeless battle, Zylo resolves to survive and defeat the Demon King. To do so, he must rely on Theolitta’s power.
“You still need my strength, don’t you?”
“Yeah… That’s right. It’s time to fight back.”When the two forge their pact, the tale of heroes who will carve open humanity’s future begins!
Check out the trailer too, as it makes the anime look like it could just be Studio Kai at its peak!
