Keiko Sakano and Mitsuru Yūki collaborating on short-term manga in Hana to Yume magazine

There’s exciting news from Japan’s long-running Hana to Yume magazine!

An announcement that mangaka Keiko Sakano (the talent behind Kamisama x Oresama x Dannasama!?) and novelist Mitsuru Yūki (known for Shōnen Onmyōji) are teaming up for a brand-new short-term manga series titled Mamorikatana no Uta – Mamorikatana no Ichimonji (or Song of the Guardian Sword -The Straight Line of the Guardian Sword).

The new manga series is set to debut in the magazine on April 19th.

Along with the announcement on Keiko Sakano’s X account, the mangaka also released a beautiful celebratory visual featuring two of the manga’s main characters. (See above).

What is the plot of Mamorikatana no Uta – Mamorikatana no Ichimonji?

While the information is sparse so far, we do know the manga is set in the bustling capital city of Shinto Tokyou, where humans and monsters coexist.

The story follows Uta, who embarks on a quest given to her by her grandmother to locate the Makibara Clan.

That clan’s servants were recently dismissed by the landlord Rinnosuke, while mysterious disappearances have also been plaguing the city at the same time.

Uta’s grandmother believes there may be a connection, and wants Uta to find out.

With Sakano’s knack for storytelling and Mitsuru’s captivating world-building, Mamorikatana no Uta – Mamorikatana no Ichimonji promises to be a must-read for manga enthusiasts who love a good fantasy supernatural story.

Fingers crossed we’ll eventually get it in tankōbon form too.
