New Shangri-La Frontier 2 visual has Sunraku and friends fighting Lycagon the Nightslayer – again!

The upcoming Shangri-La Frontier 2 has a new visual out featuring the anime’s main and supporting characters being attacked by Lycagon the Nightslayer.

Lycagon is a giant black wolf that is one of The Seven Colossi — a unique class of monster that are almost unbeatable.

It is also one of the first monsters that beat protagonist Sunraku when he first joined the Shangri-La Frontier game, the one he has sworn he will beat, and the same monster that gave him the Lycagon’s Markings curse. (Season 1, Episode 3)

Lycagon the Nightslayer only appears at night, hence the name, as that is when its power is at the strongest and is known for its massive slash attacks.

In the new and extremely high-energy Shangri-La Frontier 2 visual we can see it has taken just about everyone fighting together to have any chance of beating the wolf.

Hence, why Sunraku, Emul, Psyger-0, and new characters Akane and Ceecrue are all fighting Lycagon together.

Two new Shangri-La Frontier 2 characters announced

Alongside the new Shangri-La Frontier 2 visual, those two new characters — Akane and Ceecrue — were also announced with a character visual and the naming of their voice actors.

Akane is voiced by Yuka Terasaki (Hephaistos in Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?), while Natsuki Hanae (Tanjirou in Demon Slayer) plays Ceecrue.

The Shangri-La Frontier anime series is based on the web novel series written by Katarina.

Kodansha publishes the novel’s manga adaptation, and has this to say about its plot:

Second-year high school student Rakuro Hizutome loves nothing more than finding so-called “trash games” and beating the crap out of them.

When he decides to change things up by playing a new, “god-tier” VR game known as Shangri-La Frontier (a.k.a. SLF), he does what he does best: min-maxes, skips the prologue, and jumps straight into action!

Clad in nothing but shorts and a bird mask, Rakuro (player name: Sunraku) launches into the world of SLF. Things are going well at first as he takes down a goblin, a bunny, and even a python. But then Sunraku comes up against a huge, hard-hitting wolf known as Lycagon the Nightslayer.

Will Sunraku’s years of “trash game” experience be enough, or is he about to suffer a rude awakening just a few hours into his SLF adventure?

It is being directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka (Handyman Saitou in Another World), with Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (A Nobody’s Way Up to an Exploration Hero) in charge of series composition, and Ayumi Kurashima (Devilman: Crybaby) as both chief animation director and character designer.

Studio C2C (Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-) is animating the series.

Season 1 of the action fantasy anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, where Season 2 is likely to end up as well.

Shangri-La Frontier 2 was previously announced as premiering on October 13th. The second season will run for two cours, so well into 2025.
