The official X account and website of the upcoming TV anime adaptation of the popular Boys’ Love Twilight Out of Focus manga have just unveiled a new key visual, additional cast members, and set a broadcast date for the anime — July, 2024 in Japan.
If you have already heard anything from the series’ audio drama, you will recognize the following voice actors’ voices, as they are all reprising their roles in the Twilight Out of Focus anime:
- Yoshitsugu Matsuoka is playing Mao Tsuchiya
- Yuma Uchida voices Hisashi Otomo
- Makoto Furukawa plays Jin Kikuchihara
- Masatomo Nakazawa as Giichi Ichikawa
- Takuya Eguchi is voicing Rei Inaba, and
- Soma Saito is Shion Yoshino.
The new Twilight Out of Focus key visual features all six of the above characters — Hisashi and Mao up front looking at a camera, Shion crouched on the floor talking to Rei who is working on a laptop, and Giichi shouting something at Jin, who is just responding by smiling. (see below)
Staff of Twilight Out of Focus
The previously announced staff of Twilight Out of Focus is director Toshinori Watanabe (TEPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laughing ’til You Cry) , with series composition being carried out by Yoshimi Narita (Dance Dance Danseur), with the fabulous Youko Kikuchi (Sekaiichi Hatsukoi and Junjou Romantica, and Legend of the Galactic Heroes) in charge of character designs.
Studio DEEN (Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, Junjou Romantica, and Sasaki and Miyano), with their extensive experience in Boys’ Love anime, are in charge of anime production.
The Twilight Out of Focus manga
The first volume of the Twilight Out of Focus manga, which was written and illustrated by Jyanome, was released in English by Kodansha USA on March 1st, 2022 and went on to become a big success among Boys’ Love fans.
The manga’s fourth English volume was released last December, with a fifth volume coming out in Japanese last July.
Kodansha describes the Twilight Out of Focus plot like this:
Film enthusiast Mao Tsuchiya and his lone wolf roommate Hisashi Otomo make three promises to each other:
① That Mao will never tell anyone that Hisashi is gay and has a boyfriend,
② That Hisashi will never approach Mao “in that way,” and
③ That they’ll respect each other’s “private time.”The second-years’ ground rules should ensure a peaceful life together in their dorm, but reality is never as simple as it seems in the movies, and some things are not so easily promised…
Check out the almost idealistically-drawn Twilight Out of Focus key visual above (they look like they’re having loads of fun, don’t they?), and mark your calendars for July when the new Boys’ Love anime hits.
We will keep you updated here on Leo Sigh as more information about the anime is released as, let’s face it, Boys’ Love anime series are few and far between and this one, being produced by Studio Deen, should be one of the best.
