The upcoming full-length anime film Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved had a new visual released and two new cast members announced at this weekend’s Anime Japan 2025.
Both of which were also promoted on the comedy anime’s official X account.
Along with the visual, which features the always adorably cute Kanna front and center, we also get a glimpse of Kobayashi, Toru, Quetzalcoatl, Elma, and several more of our favorite characters.
The anime’s X account also commented about the visual:
Second key visual released — Kanna with sad eyes and new characters appear.
along with a reminder that the Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid film premieres in movie theaters in Japan on June 27th, 2025 (Friday).
And speaking of Kanna, have you watched the 10-hour video of the adorable baby dragon sploshing in the rain wearing rain boots and an umbrella, while she says “Ami, ami, ami” (rain, rain, rain)?
If not, I would say “Don’t”. It’s addictive.
New characters coming to Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved
The same X account also announced two new characters coming to the upcoming movie, along with their voice actors.
Seasoned Japanese actors you will be very familiar with.
First, we have Nobunaga Shimazaki (Hayato in Wind Breaker), who is voicing Azard (above), and who had this nice thing to say about the part:
When I received the offer, in addition to the wonderful news that Dragon Maid is being made into a movie, I feel blessed to be able to participate in this group. I felt very honored.
Second, there is Fumihiko Tachiki (Kenpachi Zaraki in Bleach) who plays Kimun Kimui.
He commented about his part in the film:
In the story, in the past and future, the relationship with his daughter and the scenes related to it are very impressive. The work itself is, I think, a fantasy animated film like no other.
Like the hit anime series before it, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved film is based on the smash-hit manga series by coolkyousinnjya.
It is being directed by Tatsuya Ishihara with the late director Yasuhiro Takemoto, who was one of the 35 Kyoto Animation staff murdered in the arson attack on the studio, being named as series director.
Japanese pop band fhána is also back performing theme song ‘Namida no Parade‘.
Kyoto Animation, of course, is animating the film.
Enjoy the new visual and, if you will be in Japan, make sure you don’t miss it on June 27th.
For the rest of us, let’s hope the anime film hits our shores soon.

Obsessed with anime and manga. Desperate for time to stop with only me left moving in the world. Then I’d have the time needed to watch the 543 anime DVDs I own, and read the more than 1,000 manga.
