Tastefully Yours EP5 grabs highest ratings yet as international viewers HATE the ‘ex’ plot twist

While the ongoing ENA drama Tastefully Yours started out with a low rating of 1.59 percent nationally, it hasn’t stayed that way for long.

In fact, the Korean drama has seen rising ratings for every episode released since.

So much so, Tastefully Yours, Episode 5 grabbed another ratings high last night — both nationally and in Seoul.

That nationwide rating for Tastefully Yours, Episode 5 was 3.40 percent on Monday night — up from Episode 4’s viewership of 3.10 percent, and over double the rating of the K-drama’s first episode (1.59 percent).

The Korean drama also performed similarly with viewers in Seoul, where it grabbed 3.20 percent of that viewing region’s audience share — double the 1.62 percent viewership of Episode 1.

With six more episodes of the 10-episode mini-drama still to air, though, I have a feeling we have not seen its best numbers yet. Well, unless last night’s plot twist continues for long, and then we might see a whole lot of dropping going on.

Tastefully Yours‘ international viewers not happy with plot direction

While the first four episodes of the Korean rom-com were beautifully written with engaging characters and a fun story, last night’s episode makes it seem as though the writer didn’t know where to go from there.

So, in a predictable K-drama trope, female lead Mo Yeon Ju (Go Min Si) suddenly has her ex-boyfriend show up.

A plot point every K-drama fan has seen in 3,452 dramas before this, and one we all universally hate.

Comments from international viewers of Tastefully Yours then have taken a negative turn after four episodes of upbeat support and expressions of “loving this”.

They range from making fun of the plot:

The series only has 10 episodes and yet they make an ex/love triangle storyline for fl 🤣

to

Why couldn’t they just drag their relationship for 10 eps instead of bringing the ex in the picture? I would’ve watched 100 eps of Beom U tailing after her instead of this.

and

I’m actually starting to lose my shit after the preview. I REALLY hope the ex disappears after ep. 6, and I hope the kiss is a memory or she pushes him away cuz wtf. This was going so smooth, but the writers always have to ruin the show by bringing unnecessary angst and drama, and the series is just 10 episodes too.

I really hope the preview was just misleading to make us anxious. The unnecessary “ex” plot reminds me of how I lost interest in Love Next Door because of the fking exes.

to another who is close to dropping Tastefully Yours completely because of this:

The issues that should be in this drama should be a funny and cute couple and Han Beom’s rivalry with his brother. There is no need for another issue. But you never showed Han Beom’s brother in the drama and made a boring love triangle. The drama that started well became crappy and boring. If it weren’t for Kang Ha Neul, I would stop watching right now.

As for me, I agree with all of them.

Too many Korean drama writers are so unimaginative that, rather than figure out a unique angle to make a successful romance with a fun couple even more interesting, they have to drag in the ex, the love triangle, the person suddenly arriving to destroy it.

It’s dull, it’s lazy and it’s the sign of a writer who prefers the easy route rather than one that requires more brain power.

The next episode of Tastefully Yours airs later on tonight and, hopefully, we will get rid of the ex then as, if the Korean drama heads off in the direction it appeared it may be going from the trailer, I will likely be dropping it too.
