The Haunted Palace hits Netflix Top 10 Non-English TV Shows chart with 5 other K-dramas

Last week was probably one of the best week’s Korean dramas have had on Netflix for a while. At least if the just-released new data from the Netflix Top 10 Non-English TV Shows chart is anything to consider.

That’s because six dramas out of the 10 on the chart are from South Korea, and one of them is the rising-rapidly-in-popularity drama — The Haunted Palace starring Yook Sung Jae, Kim Ji Yeon, and Kim Ji Hoon.

That drama is currently at #9 on the chart, behind other Korean dramas — Weak Hero: Class 2 at #1, Heavenly Ever After at #5, Resident Playbook at #6, When Life Gives You Tangerines, which was at #1 and is on the chart at #7 almost a month after it ended, and Weak Hero: Class 1 at #8).

Data is for the week April 21st to 27th, 2025, by the way.

And yes, The Haunted Palace hitting the Top 10 is a superb performance considering it is only streaming on Netflix in a tiny number of countries.

The rest of the world is accessing it on platforms like Viki.

The Haunted Palace hits the Netflix Top 10

According to the latest numbers released by the Netflix platform Tudum, The Haunted Palace is at #9 on the Top 10 after it was viewed 1.4 million times this week, for a total of 5.8 million hours.

It was in the Top 10 in 7 countries — Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, and was the #1 most-watched show in Singapore and Vietnam.

The Haunted Palace tells the story of optician and reluctant-to-be shaman Yeo Ri (played by Bona) who gets pulled into visiting the palace ostensibly to “make the king a new pair of glasses” but, in reality, to try to get rid of the spirit possessing the king’s young son.

The man who fools her into doing this is her childhood friend Yun Gap (Yook Sung Jae), but the pair haven’t been reunited for very long when something horrible happens.

That event then sends the pair (Yun Gap, who is now dragon Gang Cheol) off down the path of trying to figure out who the spirit is, and why it hates the royal family so much.

The first four episodes of The Haunted Palace are streaming on Viki for international subscribers, and with Episode 5 due out on Friday.
