To The Moon Ep 1 premieres to average ratings – nothing to write home about so far
The latest MBC comedy romance drama To The Moon, Episode 1 premiered last night to very average ratings, garnering just a 2.8 percent of the audience share nationwide, and a 2.7 percent in Seoul.
A shame its ratings are that low so far, as the Korean drama stars the stellar main cast of Lee Sun Bin, Ra Mi Ran, Jo Aram, and Kim Young Dae.
And I’m all for supporting dramas featuring more female leads than men now and again, aren’t you?
Then again, K-dramas with a predominantly female main cast do tend to struggle in the ratings, as many Korean drama fans, who are also overwhelmingly female, prefer to watch shows featuring their favorite male idols/actors.
With Kim Young Dae in one of the lead roles, however, this one does have some decent eye candy, if that’s what you’re into.
Let’s see how Episode 2 performs tonight then, eh?
International reaction to To the Moon, Episode 1
While there isn’t much point commenting on ratings yet after just one episode has aired, comments on sites like My Drama List (MDL) are mixed so far.
They range from the slightly negative:
Why is Lee Sun-Bin typecast into the same role as The Potato Lab.
The first episode wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t great either… the humour didn’t feel natural, and it’s going the predictable route. I’m going to see how it goes with the second episode
to a little more positive:
Promising first episode! Looking forward to tomorrow’s.
The Korean drama isn’t one of MDL’s most-watched new dramas, however, as just over 3,000 people are currently stating they’re watching it.
To the Moon also isn’t garnering any attention on IMDB, with no reviews or rating listed as of yet.
Internationally, To the Moon is streaming via Kocowa and, unlike Viki, they do not allow comments about their dramas, so it’s much more difficult to ascertain how a show is performing on that platform.
In other words, so far at least, and even with the excellent main cast, To the Moon seems to be a bit of a non-event internationally at least.
All we can do then is keep a close eye on it, and see how it performs after Episode 2.
