Train to the End of the World trailer shows strange new world – multi-moons, elephants and desolation

The upcoming original anime Shumatsu Train Doko e Iku? (aka Train to the End of the World) has just received another teaser trailer (the production committee on this is doing a wonderful job releasing promo material for the anime!).

The latest Shumatsu Train Doko e Iku? trailer shows the main characters — Shizuru, Reimi, Akira, and Nadeshiko — as they set off on their strange train journey.

A journey that has them crossing wide expanses of water littered with downed electricity pylons, walking through deserted landscapes, and even looking up at a sky full of various colored multiple moons.

At one point, an elephant is seen standing on a distant hill.

All the while, the girls talk and joke with each other as they are amazed at how much the world has changed since that incident two years before.

And yet, how much fun it all seems to be as well.

Shumatsu Train Doko e Iku? staff

The upcoming anime, which is all about apocalypse, trains and friends (yep, all that at once), is being directed by veteran director Tsutomu Mizushima (Shirobako), with Michiko Yokote (The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!) in charge of series composition.

Asako Nishida (Love Live! School Idol Project) is both designing the characters and the Chief Animation Director.

EMT Squared (Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear) is in charge of anime production and, from the trailers released so far, they look like they are doing an amazing job — both with the animation and that gorgeous Shumatsu Train Doko e Iku? art style.

Producer KADOKAWA describes the Shumatsu Train Doko e Iku? plot like this:

A town in the suburbs, but this is not your run-of-the-mill rural town as there is something very wrong with the residents. But even in such a situation, Chikura Shizuru has strong feelings. She wants to see her missing friends again!

Shizuru and her friends are now on a train that had been abandoned and had stopped moving, so Shizuru and her friends go out into the outside world, not knowing if they will make it back alive or not.

But what will be at the end of the train journey?

The Shumatsu Train Doko e Iku? anime series is scheduled to premiere on April 1st in Japan.

It will stream on Crunchyroll internationally.
