Typhoon Family, Ep 2 earns ratings rise as Kdrama’s international ratings (hilariously) plummet
Typhoon Family, Episode 2 aired on Sunday night to a very nice ratings rise after already premiering with the best ratings for a weekend tvN drama on Saturday.
According to Nielsen Korea, the nationwide rating for Typhoon Family, Episode 2 on Sunday night was 6.82 percent. That’s almost a full 1.0 percent increase from the 6.82 percent the K-drama earned for Episode 1.
In Seoul, the second episode of the tvN drama also saw an increase — jumping from the 5.73 percent it garnered for Episode 1 to 6.32 percent last night.
The Korean drama was also the #1 show in its time slot across every cable TV station on Sunday night.
I would say that was a successful weekend, wouldn’t you?
Typhoon Family drops in international ratings on ‘the usual sites’
When I checked the ratings for Typhoon Family on My Drama List (MDL) this morning, I laughed as the K-drama’s page opened.
After all, after starting off with a solid 8.2 out of 10 yesterday, the small army of trolls that populate the site, and downrate almost every drama soon after it premieres, have now downrated Typhoon Family to a 7.9 out of 10 as well.
How do I know the plummeting rating is due to the trolls?
Because when you read the comments on the drama’s page, you immediately realize the people actually watching the Korean drama are leaving extremely positive comments.
And questioning why the ratings on the site are so low.
Meanwhile, over on IMDB, Typhoon Family is also suffering an Attack by Troll as, what was a very high 8.7 out of 10 yesterday has now plummeted to a lunatic low of 5.4 out of 10.
In other words, never, ever, ever, ever make a decision about watching or not watching a drama based on ratings on My Drama List or on IMDB.
Or, for that matter, on just about every “ratings site” out there.
Decide if you’re interested in the plot, the actors or the director yourself. And then watch it. Rather than allowing idiots to sway your viewing choices.
Typhoon Family stars Lee Jun Ho and Kim Min Ha, and airs every Saturday and Sunday on tvN.
The Korean drama is also streaming on Netflix internationally where, my guess is, it will probably be on that platform’s Top 10 Non-English TV Shows chart very very soon.
