Production details for Introduction to Mineralogy

The educational slice-of-life anime is based on the Japanese manga written by Keiichirō Shibuya.

It follows a group of students who get into the science of mineralogy, and eventually become obsessed.

The official Ruri no Houseki website describes its plot like this:

Ruri Tanigawa, a high school girl who loves sparkly things, heads into the mountains in search of crystals, thinking, “Maybe I can find one myself!”

There she meets Nagi Arato, a graduate student majoring in mineralogy, and soon she and Nagi decide to collect minerals together.

Sometimes Ruri is walking mountain paths looking for crystals, sometimes she bathes in a river to pick up garnets, and sometimes she peers at unknown minerals through a microscope.

All guided by Nagi, Ruri dives into the world of mineral collecting with the idea that “I’m sure I can find some too”. A dream that everyone has had at some point.

From the trailer (watch below), the anime, with its beautiful art style and superb animation, looks like it delves extensively into the world of mineralogy, while also making it fun for viewers.

Introduction to Mineralogy is being directed by Shingo Fuji (Onimai: I’m Now Your Sister!), with series composition from Michiko Yokote (Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill).
