Ryu Seung Ryong and Yang Se Jong’s ‘Low Life’ gets premiere date – has AMAZING ensemble main cast
While most Korean drama fans seem to be hung up on the youngish idols-turned-actors who populate so many K-dramas nowadays, I have always been more partial to older actors who have earned their adulation and who rarely, if ever, turn in a bad performance.
Actors like Ryu Seung Ryong, the 50s-ish actor who has been a powerhouse in K-dramas like Moving, Kingdom and, if you watched Korean series way back, the historical mystery drama Byul Soon Geom.
That’s why I am thrilled today that Disney+ has finally announced the premiere date of Ryu Seong Ryong’s latest series Low Life — because this one looks like an absolute banger.
It is a Korean drama co-starring the superb and EPIC main cast of Yang Se Jong, Lim Soo Jung, Im Hyung Joon (who plays a salvage diver), Lee Sang Jin, Kim Eui Sung, Kim Sung Oh, Kim Jong Soo, Lee Dong Hwi, U-Know, Jang Gwang, Hong Ki Joon, Woo Hyun and Kim Min.
Yep — 13 actors in its main cast. That we know of. And a Disney+ original series that just had its premiere date announced today — July 16th, 2025.
Along with its premiere announcement, we also got a Low Life teaser poster, with the tagline ‘In 1997 Korea, greed runs deeper than the ocean‘.
Now that piqued my interest so much, I can’t freakin’ wait.
Low Life production details
The 11-episode mystery crime drama is adapted from the webtoon “The Hooligans” (파인), which was written by Yoon Tae Ho (윤태호).
It is directed by Kang Yoon Sung (Big Bet and The Outlaws), and co-written by Kang Yoong Sung and Yoon Tae Ho (The Ordinary Glory).
Its plot, by the way, also sounds intriguing as it follows a group of villagers who discover a ship with sunken treasure right off their village’s coast:
The Korean drama tells the story of a group of people who flock together in pursuit of a sunken treasure ship buried beneath the sea.
Ryu Seung Ryong plays Oh Gwan Seok, the leader of the group gathered to retrieve the treasure off the coast of Shinan.
Yang Se Jong portrays Oh Hee Dong, who sets out on the treasure hunt with his uncle Oh Gwan Seok, while Im Soo Jung takes on the role of Yang Jung Sook, a talented money manager from Heungbaek Industries.
Disney+ has announced Low Life will drop its first three episodes for its subscribers on July 16th, followed by an additional two episodes on July 23rd, July 30th, August 6th, and August 13th.
Yep, they are insisting on dragging out an 11-episode drama for a month. Damn!
