The Nice Guy Eps 1 and 2 earn solid ratings with Ep 2’s ratings even higher than Ep 1
Lee Dong Wook’s new drama The Nice Guy (착한 사나이) premiered its first two episodes on JTBC last night to solid ratings, and to higher ratings for its second episode than its first.
According to Nielsen Korea, The Nice Guy, Episode 1 earned nationwide ratings of 3.03 percent, while Episode 2 garnered a slightly higher 3.22 percent of the national viewership.
The Korean romance noir drama saw lower ratings from audiences in Seoul but, again, had higher ratings for its second episode.
Those Seoul ratings were 2.48 percent for Episode 1 and 2.69 percent for Episode 2.
YES, LEE DONG WOOK CAN SING, NO, HE CAN’T SPEAK ENGLISH
That bodes well for the Korean drama’s future episodes, with 12 more episodes still to air.
Interestingly, The Nice Guy is also going to continue releasing two episodes every Friday evening through August 29th, rather than airing one episode on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Nice Guy production details
The 13-episodes Korean drama is directed by Song Hae Sung (A Better Tomorrow), and is written by Kim Woon Kyung (Yoo Na’s Street).
The action romance drama is a little different than what we often get coming out of Korea, as it follows the chaotic life of Park Seok Cheol (Lee Dong Wook) the grandson of a third-generation gangster family, who tries to protect his family and career, while at the same time helping his first love, Kang Mi-young (Lee Sung Kyung).
It’s also more of a slice-of-life drama with quite a bit of unhinged craziness, some touching scenes and some comedy, which may not be what some viewers originally expected but, as first and second episodes go, I enjoyed it and am looking forward to next week.
The Nice Guy stars Lee Dong Wook, Lee Sung Kyung, and Park Hoon, with its next episodes airing on Friday, July 25th.
