Detectives These Days Are Crazy! creditless opening does a brilliant job introducing Keiichiro Nagumo

The over-the-top comedy detective anime series Detectives These Days Are Crazy! is officially now out and, in celebration, KADOKAWA has just released its creditless opening animation, which features the opening theme song ‘Suffer‘ performed by Taiiku Okazaki.

And, in my estimation, that Detectives These Days Are Crazy! creditless opening animation does a brilliant job of introducing protagonist, and washed-up detective Keiichiro Nagumo.

A man who, as we see from the flash in the mirror of his younger face, was once a bright, ambitious private detective who, after a lifetime of disappointments, has let the world beat him down.

Or has he?

After all, by the end of the Detectives These Days Are Crazy! creditless opening animation sequence, we see Keiichiro with a slight smile on his face, as he sits in the rain on a bench smoking a cigarette, and with a slight glint in his eye.

Nah, Keiichiro Nagumo hasn’t given up on life yet. Then again, he could just be crazy.

First episode of Detectives These Days Are Crazy! kicks off the anime in a lunatic way

As for the anime itself, if you want something that’s absolutely lunatic and completely overboard in the comedy department, this is the best thing in years.

Wild, over exaggerated faces, ultra-loud, screamy voice acting, slapstick humor, and a protagonist (Keiichiro) who’s more interested in the underpants of the high school girl (Mashiro) than he is in getting to his next stakeout, but who is in so much pain due to just getting old, he can’t even stay on his feet long enough to make it to the front door.

Let alone to a crime scene.

Throw in Mashiro, a high school girl with the “storage ability” to carry ten thousand things concealed on her person, extreme karate and spear-wielding skills, the most-annoyingly loud and over-enthusiastic voice that alerts anyone under surveillance that she’s watching them, and a quick fist that will knock anyone out before they even see it coming.

And, let’s just say, Detectives These Days Are Crazy! isn’t your usual detective-themed anime.

For the Japanese, it’s probably even funnier, as there are so many domestic pop culture references they will immediately understand when the rest of us won’t.

But, even for me, an anime fanatic who knows enough about Japan and its pop culture to only understand some of them, the first episode was still a crazily fun, and truly unique, romp.

Cerberus the horrible cat was an added bonus, as I think he’ll be epic as the series goes on. And don’t even get me started on those amazing visuals.

Detectives These Days are Crazy! is directed by Rion Kujo, with Rintaro Ikeda in charge of series composition, and Isoroku Koga acting as both character designer and chief animation director.

Liden Films is animating.

Enjoy the Detectives These Days Are Crazy! creditless opening animation, and look out for Episode 2 arriving next Wednesday.

I have a feeling, if it continues to be as nuts as this all the way to its end, this one could be the most-talked about anime of the Summer, 2025 season.
