Detectives These Days Are Crazy’s Yuu Asunaro/Hana Kazamaki character trailer intros high school sleuth and his assistant

The upcoming mystery comedy anime Detectives These Days are Crazy! has just received a new character video and, as you may have hoped, it just has to be for our supporting couple — high school detective Yuu Asunaro and his matter-of-fact assistant Hana Kazamaki.

In the 47-second video, we see Yuu Asunaro admitting if anything seems mysterious, he has no choice but to investigate.

Meanwhile, Hana Kazamaki looks on with an almost resigned attitude.

After all, she still calls Asunaro a “bespectacled piece of garbage” — well, with a twinkle in her eye, anyway.

Asunaro himself is the head of the Asunaro Detective Agency, while Kazamaki aka “Maki” is his incredibly efficient assistant.

Character visuals for the pair were also released (see below), along with the names of the actors playing them.

They are Tomohiro Yamaguchi (Daena Severus in Tsukimichi – Moonlit Fantasy), who is voicing Yuu Asunaro, and Aya Hirano (Lucy Heartfilia in Fairy Tail) who plays Hana Kazamaki.

The pair join already announced Junichi Suwabe as middle-aged detective Keiichirō Nagumo, and Kana Hanazawa as his assistant Mashiro.

Detectives These Days are Crazy! anime details

The upcoming new anime is based on the Detectives These Days Are Crazy! (aka まったく最近の探偵ときたらMattaku Saikin no Tantei Tokitara) manga series by Masakuni Igarashi.

Rion Kujou (The Legendary Hero is Dead!) is directing the anime. An anime studio, screenwriter and character designer have not yet been announced.

My Anime List explains the anime’s plot in this fashion — and, yep, it sounds crazily fun:

Nagumo Keeichirou was a genius high-school detective. No case was complex enough for him. But what happens to genius detectives when they get older? Now 35, with bad hips, running a failing detective agency with no cases to solve and struggling to pay the rent, he’s at a dead end.

It is then high school student Mashiro arrives, saying she wants to work with him. With her help, will the out-of-touch, old-fashioned Nagumo get back the fire of his youth?

Detectives These Days are Crazy! is scheduled to premiere some time in 2025.
