The heart-wrenching Studio Ghibli film Grave of the Fireflies is coming to Netflix in September.
According to the streaming platform, the animated film will stream in more than 190 countries with only Japan being excluded.
Grave of the Fireflies will be the only Studio Ghibli film streaming on Netflix in the United States as most of the others are licensed by HBO Max for U.S. distribution.
Meanwhile, 22 other Ghibli films stream on Netflix around the world, but not in the U.S.
The hit and now-classic Grave of the Fireflies will begin streaming on the platform on September 16th.
Netflix themselves have this to say about the 1988 anime film:
Based on Akiyuki Nosaka’s Naoki Prize-winning short story, Grave of the Fireflies is set in Kobe near the end of World War II and depicts the tragic fate of war orphan siblings and the horrors of this period.
The film was created by the legendary director Isao Takahata, the co-founder of Studio Ghibli.Â
The film was released for home distribution via Sentai Filmworks in the United States, but is not currently available via the company.
