Kaiju No. 8 sequel confirmed and already in production as first season ends

Right after the final episode of Kaiju No. 8, Season 1 aired earlier today, the anime’s official X account confirmed a sequel is now in production.

Whether that is a second season or a film, we don’t as yet know but, with Season 2 not being specifically mentioned, my guess is it is very likely we will be getting an anime film.

Along with the Kaiju No. 8 sequel, the addition of voice actor Koki Uchiyama (Soul in Soul Eater) to the cast as the long-awaited Gen Narumi, captain of the First Division, was also announced with a graphic (see below).

He also appeared in the last episode of Season 1.

It is his voice you can hear in the Kaiju No. 8 sequel teaser trailer below.

Season 1 of Kaiju No. 8 began on April 13th and ran till June 29th, 2024.

The anime introduced us to an alternate world where Japan is being consistently attacked by monsters called Kaiju, and where the heroes of the society are the people in the Defense Force who kill them.

We met Kafka Hibino, Reno Ichikawa, Kikoru Shinomiya, Mina Ashiro, Soshiro Hoshina and the rest of the Third Division as they trained and worked to become the best Defense Force officers they could possibly be.

While also putting their lives on the line every single day.

As Season 1 of the anime continued, new types of Kaiju were also introduced, along with the titular Kaiju No. 8 who makes an appearance at the end of Episode 1 in the form of a violently transformed Kafka Hibino.

The rest of Season 1 then follows Kafka as he not only desperately tries to be accepted into the Defense Force but, after he is accepted, has to then hide who he really is from everyone around him except for two friends.

The anime is based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto.

VIZ Media publishes the manga in English, with 10 volumes already out and Volume 11 due out in October.

Shigeyuki Miya (Onihei) directs the anime, with Ichiro Okouchi (Devilman Crybaby) in charge of series composition and scripts, and Tetsuya Nishio (Vampire in the Garden) as both chief animation director and character designer.

Production I.G. did a phenomenal job producing the anime.

Whether the same staff and production studio will be involved in the Kaiju No. 8 sequel, we do not know as yet.

We will keep you updated here on Leo Sigh as we find out.

Until then, watch the short teaser trailer for the just-announced Kaiju No. 8 sequel below and, if you haven’t yet watched Season 1’s final episode, you can do that now via Crunchyroll.
