While it is still six months until the fantasy action adventure anime From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman premieres (April, 2025), we are still getting a fair amount of news about what we can expect when it does.
The latest came out today in the form of a cast announcement for the voice of Aleucia Citrus, commander of the Kingdom of Leberis knights – with one of Japan’s most famous voice actors, Nao Toyama (Rin Shima in Laid-Back Camp) named to the part.
Along with the announcement, a short teaser character video featuring the husky voice of Toyama as Aleucia was also released. (Watch below)
Aleucia, by the way, is a former pupil of protagonist Beryl Gardernant and is also the one responsible for getting him a job as a special instructor to the knights.

That means she is also likely to be quite pertinent to the plot as it develops.
From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman details
The upcoming anime series is based on the light novels by Shigeru Sagazaki and illustrated by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima, and the manga adaptation illustrated by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima.
It tells the story of Beryl Gardinant, a middle-aged sword instructor in a small village who once dreamed of becoming a master swordsman.
But, Beryl believes those days are behind him until his former pupil Aleucia, a knight herself, visits him and informs he has been named as a special instructor to the nation’s order of knights — the Liberion Order.
Soon, he finds himself in the capital city reunited with several other former students, but still bemused as to why they need him?
After all, what can he possibly offer such highly-skilled swordsmen? And can he live up to their admiration of him?
From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman is being directed by Akio Kazumi (director of the just-premiered Loner Life in Another World), with Kunihiko Okada (The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy) in charge of series composition, and Satsuki Hayasaki (Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki) as both character designer and animation director.
Studios Passione and Hayabusa Film are both in charge of anime production.
