New Kabukicho Sherlock visual shows TV anime’s amateur detectives in Tokyo

The upcoming Kabukicho Sherlock anime series got a new key visual today, and it really is cool.

The anime series is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes detective novels but, in the case of Kabukicho Sherlock, it centers around a group of seven young Japanese amateur detectives who live and hang out in Tokyo’s red light district and attempt to solve crime.

The case they are working on when the story opens is another British classic now located in Tokyo — the Jack the Ripper murders.

Cast members include Katsuyuki Konishi (Fire Force, One Punch Man, Food Wars!) as Holmes, Yuichi Nakamura (To The Abandoned Sacred Beasts, Dr. Stone, Fruits Basket) as Watson, and Seiichirō Yamashita (How To Keep a Mummy, A Centaur’s LifeHitorijime My Hero) who plays Moriarty.

Kabukicho Sherlock is produced by Production I.G (FLCL Alternative, Psycho Pass, Run with the Wind), directed by Ai Yoshimura (Dance with Devils), written by Taku Kishimoto (Joker Game) and with Takurō Iga (Tsuki ga Kirei) composing the music.

The anime series will begin airing in Japan in October, 2019.

You can keep up to date on news about the series on its website.

And no idea on how good this will be compared to the Benedict Cumberbatch/Martin Freeman version of Sherlock many of us obsess over and love, but the animation so far looks beautiful.
