The Haunted Palace, EP 8 earns highest Saturday rating yet as one character gets most of the praise!
The Haunted Palace still holding incredibly strong after Friday’s all-time high
After SBS drama The Haunted Palace earned its highest rating yet on Friday night, I pointed out its viewership last night would probably drop as its Saturday episode is usually its lower rated one between the two nights.
To prove just how popular the Korean fantasy rom-com (horror?) drama has become then, just look at the ratings for last night (Saturday) — both nationwide and in Seoul.
That’s because while, sure, The Haunted Palace, Episode 8 saw a slight drop from its Friday audience share (a drop barely mentioning by the way), it still aired last night to its highest Saturday ratings yet.
Nope, not many people are dropping this Yook Sung Jae, Bona (aka Kim Ji Yeon), and Kim Ji Hoon-headed K-drama as it now heads into its second half, right?
Those ratings on Saturday night, by the way, were 9.5 percent of the nationwide audience share versus Friday night’s 9.8 percent (see, hardly a drop at all), and 9.1 percent in Seoul versus Friday night’s 9.6 percent.
Both ratings also meant The Haunted Palace was the second most-watched show of the day on Saturday on free-to-watch TV in both regions.
With The Haunted Palace still performing incredibly well in South Korea then, my guess is we will probably see another all-time high viewership when Episode 9 airs next Friday.
How about you?
The Haunted Palace‘s international ratings after Episode 8 airs
Meanwhile, the Korean drama is still earning the same solid 8.1 out of 10 rating on My Drama List that it has been garnering for a couple of weeks now.
Interestingly, after Episode 8, Yi Seong the king (played by Kim Ji Hoon) is getting even more positive comments on the site versus male lead Yook Sung Jae.
Comments ranging from:
The king is the true ML. Kang Ji Hoon is the most swoonworthy joseon or goryeo king i’ve seen in decades of kdramas.
to
So much for being a nice old man,…Yeo Ri, you are so blind…
I really like the King – attractive, pretty useful when it comes to fighting spirits or men, smart and now he’s shown to be extremely faithful…
and, while negative about The Haunted Palace’ special effects (totally agree) and the fight scenes (yep), this viewer is all in for Kim Ji Hoon:
So the special effects and the fighting leaves a lot to be desired but I think the actors and the FL are doing a great job. I really like the reactions from the Majesty, the two guards and the enuch whenever it’s something towards Gangcheol. The two Royal Guards are good looking too.
Kim Ji Hoon is amazing as the Majesty. I’d love to see him in another Dramedy. He was also funny in Love To Hate You.
And, yep, I agree on the person’s comment about Kim Ji Hoon on Love To Hate You, as that is the first drama I watched featuring the now-44-year-old actor and immediately fell in love. (He’s also incredible as the villain in the Korean movie Ballerina).

So, congratulations to The Haunted Palace, and main man (this week) Kim Ji Hoon for the excellent ratings. We will see how it performs next Friday!
