Prior to the upcoming sci-fi romance anime ATRI -My Dear Moments- premiering in Japan on July 13th, a new character video for Ryuuji Nojima has been released on the anime’s official website today, along with his character art.
That Ryuuji Nojima character video introduces the 18-year-old man who, after an unexpected rising of the seas all over the world has left his parents’ factory completely submerged, spends his time taking care of a group of orphaned children.
When protagonist Ikaruga Natsuki returns to the countryside where he was born, after losing both his mother and one of his legs in an accident, Ryuuji is one of the people who befriends him.
The new Ryuuji Nojima character video appears to show a very responsible person who easily takes control of a situation, while taking care of those around him.
He is being voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya (Kaina in Kaina of the Great Snow Sea).
What is ATRI -My Dear Moments-?
The new sci-fi anime is based on a visual novel game of the same name from Frontwing and Makura (枕), the creators of the The Fruit of Grisaia visual novel.
Aniplex, who publishes the game, describes its plot like this:
In the near future, a sudden and unexplained sea rise has left much of human civilization underwater. Ikaruga Natsuki, a boy who lost his mother and his leg in an accident some years earlier, returns disillusioned from a harsh life in the big city to find his old countryside home half-swallowed by the sea. Left without a family, all he has to his name is the ship and submarine left to him by his oceanologist grandmother, and her debts.
His only hope to restore the dreams for the future that he has lost is to take up an opportunity presented to him by the suspicious debt collector Catherine. They set sail to search the sunken ruins of his grandmother’s laboratory in order to find a treasure rumor says she left there. But what they find is not riches or jewels; it is a strange girl lying asleep in a coffin at the bottom of the sea. Atri.
Atri is a robot, but her appearance and her wealth of emotions would fool anyone into thinking she’s a living, breathing human being. In gratitude for being salvaged, she makes a declaration to Natsuki: “I want to fulfill my master’s final order. Until I do, I’ll be your leg!”
In a little town slowly being enveloped by the ocean, an unforgettable summer is about to begin for this boy and this mysterious robot girl…
The anime is being directed by Makoto Katou (Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files series), with Jukki Hanada (Girls Band Cry) in charge of scripts and series composition, and Michio Satou (Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note) as both the the character designer and chief animation director.
