One of the standout anime of the Summer, 2024 season is the romance drama Days with My Stepsister (aka Gimai Seikatsu), which premiered earlier in the week.

Today, the latest promotion for the anime was released in the form of a very pretty Days with My Stepsister creditless opening animation.

Its animation features protagonists Saki Ayase and Yuta Asamura both when they were small children and nowadays, as they become part of a new blended family.

Part of the opening footage is made up of scenes from a video camera showing Saki and Yuta with their parents, as well as with friends at school and work.

The animation also goes back in time, seeming to suggest the pair knew each other when they were children.

It also features a snippet of the anime’s upbeat opening theme song — ‘Tenshi-tachi no Uta‘ by Japanese pop band fhána.

Days with My Stepsister is based on the popular light novels by Ghost Mikawa and Hiten.

It is published in English by Yen Press, who offers both the original light novels and their manga spin-off.

Yen Press comments on the novels’ plot like this:

When his father remarries, Yuuta Asamura winds up sharing a roof with a brand-new stepsister, who is also the hottest girl in his grade! But Yuuta and his new sister, Saki Ayase, have no delusions—they both carry trauma from their parents’ difficult divorces, and they agree to keep a respectful distance.

As it turns out, however, the two have a lot in common, and slowly, cautiously, they grow closer. But is the emotion blooming between them simple admiration, familial love, or something more?

The Days with My Stepsister anime series is being directed by Takehiro Ueno (assistant director of Sasaki and Miyano), with Matsutaka Hirota (My Wife Has No Emotion) in charge of series composition, and Manabu Nii (Akiba Maid War) designing the characters.

Studio Deen (Twilight Out of Focus) is producing the anime series.
