Food for the Soul’s Shinon Ogawa character video profiles crazy, loud and funny Food Culture Research Club founder

Ongoing anime Food for the Soul has been one of my most pleasant surprises this Spring, 2025 season.

Chockful of cute and funny girls, a pretty art style, decent animation and with a gourmet-theme that serves up easy recipes as it goes, each episode flies by it’s all just so feel good.

One of Food for the Soul’s cute girls, by the way, just got a character trailer today.

That girl is crazily outgoing and often very loud Shinon Ogawa, Mako’s childhood friend, and the person whose idea it was to start the Food Culture Research Club just so she and her friends could “lounge around and do nothing”.

Of course, that didn’t work out to well for her, but…

And, yep, in just 48 seconds, the Shinon Ogawa character video gives such a great rundown of how nuts she can be, you would know exactly who she was the first time you met her.

Shinon is brilliantly voiced by Yoshino Aoyama (Meg in Once Upon a Witch’s Death).

Her character video follows on that for the equally cute and funny Kurea Furutachi, which came out late last month via the Aniplex YouTube channel. (Update: Nana Hoshi and Tsutsuji Higa just got one as well).

Production details for Food for the Soul

The anime is based on an original story by Atto, the creator of Non Non Biyori, so if you get similar vibes, that’s why. (Japanese title 日々は過ぎれど飯うましHibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi).

It is being directed by Shinya Kawatsura (Non Non Biyori) and Tohru Shunsui (episode director for The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie).

Yoshihiro Hiki (Akiba Maid War) is in charge of series composition, with Hajime Mitsuda (Kiratto Pri☆chan) designing those funny and adorable characters.

P.A. Works (Shirobako) is animating.

As for the Food for the Soul plot, while it is nothing earth-shattering, it really is just a chill and funny anime whose every episode whizzes by, the girls’ antics are so much fun:

Cute x Delicious = The Best Meals”.

An original daily life animation about five girls who just became college students. They love delicious food, want to have lots of fun with everyone, and try a little hard on their studies, so let’s enjoy college life to the fullest!

Watch Shinon Ogawa’s character trailer, enjoy Tsutsuji Higa’s character PV here, and then stream the comedy slice-of-life anime via Crunchyroll.
