Good Boy EP1 premieres to superb ratings as it airs against The Haunted Palace and Oh My Ghost Clients
New JTBC drama Good Boy, Episode 1 premiered last night to solid ratings. Especially for a K-drama that was airing at the same time as popular SBS drama The Haunted Palace, and new MBC series Oh My Ghost Clients.
Interestingly, Good Boy premiered at a movie theater at one of my favorite haunts, Iconsiam in Bangkok, Thailand, a few hours before it aired on Korean TV, with the main cast attending the event.
Its ratings on South Korean TV, however, are what is more important, and they were superb with the nationwide rating at 4.81 percent, and its Seoul viewership at an even higher 5.74 percent.
Its next episode airs later on tonight at 22:30 (KST) and, without being up against The Haunted Palace especially, it may perform even better.
As for international viewers, they also seem to be pretty happy with the Korean crime-themed drama so far as, over on MDL, it is currently earning an 8.2 out of 10, and with IMDB users awarding it a very high 9.0 out of 10.
Good Boy, Episode 1 production details
Those ratings, of course, are not entirely unexpected by me or anyone else who has been following the production details for the K-drama.
After all, the new JTBC drama features the excellent main cast of Park Bo Gum (When Life Gives You Tangerines), Kim So Hyun (My Lovely Liar), Oh Jung Se (Revenant), Lee Sang Yi (No Gain, No Love), Heo Sung Tae (Crash), and Tae Won Seok (The Player 2: Master of Swindlers) — yep, now that’s a great cast, eh?
The Korean drama is being directed by Shim Na Yeon (The Good Bad Mother), and was written by Lee Dae Il (Chief of Staff).
The drama follows a group of former world-class athletes who are recruited to join an ‘Olympic Avengers’ police team. Thus, using their superb physical skills to go after criminals.
International K-drama fans can watch Good Boy on either Netflix or Disney+ depending on where you are located.
