Junzi Wu Ji EP 8 stills are all about the palace exam
It’s donghua still time again and, this time, it’s nine Junzi Wu Ji, Episode 8 stills that have just been released by Wonder Cat Animation studio on their Weibo account.
The Chinese anime itself (aka Everything is Fine with the Emperor) has been a pleasant surprise so far — nicely animated, decent character models and an actual plot with some suspense and intrigue thrown in.
And the continual release of stills has been a treat.
The Junzi Wu Ji, Episode 8 stills, as usual, come with a comment from Wonder Cat, this time a pretty long one:
Episode 8 of Junzi Wuji, produced by Wonder Cat Animation, is now updated with thrilling developments!
The Eastern Palace literary exam takes a dramatic turn—the Emperor alters the test questions with his own brush, setting up a lantern riddle challenge. The lanterns conceal hidden mysteries, and candidates must rely on their wits to break the puzzle!
Meanwhile, Yao Ji storms into the Eastern Palace in search of the spirit stone. But, just as the protective barrier is about to collapse, a tide of phantom shadows engulfs her…
As the exam nears its end, the frail prince makes a desperate gamble by pointing to the highest lantern, only for a sudden gust of wind to scatter ink and ruin his paper.
A mysterious beast bares its fangs, and Yao Ji burns through her last reserves of energy in a life-or-death struggle—two desperate crises collide amidst a sky full of lanterns and eerie phantom mist!
Witness how the remnants of ink and strategy defy fate.
Yep, a pretty good rundown of the latest episode’s plot, I would say.
As for the Junzi Wu Ji, Episode 8 stills, the confined consorts are back in two of them, Yao Ji is worried about Liu Ling’s health in another, we get a nice view of the examination hall, one of the lanterns, Liu Ling’s spoiled exam paper and a lovely shot of Yao Ji running from several of those strange black beasts.
The episode’s official trailer is also down below.
Junzi Wu Ji, details
Adapted from PrayJun’s web novel The Lonely Monarch Without Illness (literal translation), the Junzi Wu Ji donghua adaptation airs exclusively on Bilibili every Wednesday at 11:00 AM (Beijing Time).
Wonder Cat Animation is the studio behind the donghua, with Bilibili producing.
The easiest way to watch it outside China currently is via the Made by Bilibili donghua-focused YouTube channel.
Sure, that channel is always a couple of episodes behind China, with Episode 7 not even premiering until March 28th for non-subscribers, but every episode has solid English subtitles and, once you know when their release schedule is, it makes it easy to find it.
