As a huge fan of Korean actor Ryu Kyung Soo (he was superb in The Bequeathed) I am thrilled with the news out of South Korea earlier today.

Yep, Ryu Kyung Soo has been confirmed to star in a new comedy film called Hit Hit Hit (Working/literal title).

Something that is a departure from his more usual type of roles, but one that should give the incredibly versatile actor a good chance to show off his impressive acting skills.

Especially as, apparently, the 31-year-old actor will be playing a hip-hop artist.

Now, there is something he hasn’t done before! No wonder the likes-to-be-challenged actor accepted the role, eh?

Ryu Kyung Soo as a hip-hop artist

According to various Korean entertainment news outlets, Ryu Kyung Soo will be playing wanna-be hip-hop star Won Yi, who performs several times a week in front of a raw fish restaurant by the beach.

But, when one of his songs is stolen, he chases after the thief only to find himself in a world where the way he lived his self-involved, pretentious life is a thing of the past.

As usual, take the premise of the film with a pinch of salt, as what we are often told is a film/drama plot by Korean news often turns out to be markedly different.

Ryu Kyung Soo’s previous roles

As for his previous work, Ryu Kyung Soo recently gave an astounding performance as the mentally-troubled step-brother in the Netflix drama The Bequeathed, as well as superbly played former mountain spirit on a quest for vengeance in Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 in another standout role.

He also starred in Lovestruck in the City, and has had supporting roles in dramas Hellbound, Itaewon Class, Confession and Glitch.

We most recently had the pleasure of seeing him in a short but sweet guest role in the recent hit drama Wedding Impossible.

Films, though, is where the Korean actor seems to garner most of his main roles, with leading roles in Cabriolet, Jung E, Hostage: Missing Celebrity, and Just for Laughs in the last few years.

As for Hit Hit Hit, while not much is known about the film so far, Han Cinema is now featuring a just-released poster for the film, which features both Ryu Kyung Soo and Go Gyu Pil.

It appears then that Go Gyu Pil also has a main lead in Hit Hit Hit. As a superb actor who is usually relegated to a supporting role, good for him!

Han Cinema also lists the director as Kim Dong Gyu II (The Golden Holiday).

We will keep you updated here on Leo Sigh as more information is released.
