I have got to say I was thrilled when I checked the latest Top 10 Most-Watched Non-English TV Show chart via Netflix’s Tudum website and saw the Korean mini-series The Bequeathed in the #1 spot.
That six-episode show was the highlight of my viewing week last week — binge-watching it as I did in just one evening — so I am pleased to see many other people, apparently, enjoyed the K-drama as much as I did.
According to the latest data from Netflix — for the week of January 22nd to January 28th — The Bequeathed was the #1 most-watched non-English TV show on the platform with more than 3.1 million views during that time period, for a total of over 14.5 million hours watched.
The Korean drama was also in the Top 10 in 29 countries, including France, Poland, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Bahamas, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and India.
Considering The Bequeathed hit the #4 spot on last week’s chart just three days after it premiered on Netflix though, it probably isn’t that much of a surprise the K-drama made its way to the top spot the week after.
What is The Bequeathed about?
The Korean thriller follows a professor who suddenly learns she has been left a family burial plot after an uncle she had had no contact with suddenly dies.
Unfortunately for her, other people also have their eye on the plot for various reasons and, before she knows it, she is embroiled in a situation that involves the murder of several people — including some she is connected to.
Throw in a half-brother who suddenly appears and may be a threat, and a detective team with their own personal problems and, what is only a short six-episode mystery thriller, becomes non-stop nail-biting action.
The Bequeathed stars the phenomenal and perfectly cast Kim Hyun Joo, Park Hee Soon, Park Byung Eun, and Ryu Kyung Soo.
The Korean drama is written and directed by Train to Busan‘s Yeon Sang Ho, and is the perfect choice for lovers of horror and suspense with an Asian twist.
Easy to see why then, even with just six episodes, The Bequeathed beat much longer dramas to the #1 spot on Netflix.
