The Divorce Insurance EP9 sees small ratings rise – as international viewers rate it low

In a prime example of how a stellar cast cannot save a badly-written drama, The Divorce Insurance, Episode 9 saw a small ratings rise last night.

But still a rise only to the levels of far less than half the viewership it earned for its first episode.

The nationwide rating for The Divorce Insurance, Episode 9 for instance was just 1.37 percent on Monday night.

Sure, that rating was up from its previous episode’s all-time low of 1.0 percent, but still far away from the 3.23 percent it earned for Episode 1.

The tvN drama performed similarly with viewers in Seoul, earning 1.78 percent for Episode 9 — up from Episode 8’s below 1.0 percent –– but still nowhere near the Episode 1 viewership of 3.61 percent.

In other words, when all is said and done and the K-drama finally ends, The Divorce Insurance isn’t likely to be a series the cast and crew talk about much.

A cast, by the way, that is not remotely to blame for the drama’s ongoing low ratings. That is all on the head of the screenwriter who started off with an extremely fun and interesting first episodes, and then seemed to literally lose the plot.

International viewers’ ratings for The Divorce Insurance

Ratings for the Korean workplace-themed romantic comedy are also tanking internationally.

Users of IMDB currently have it at a low 7.0 out of 10, while those on My Drama List (MDL) are rating it a 7.7 out of 10.

Yes, folks on MDL do rate dramas low — often — but, in this case, the low rating for The Divorce Insurance, a drama that started off well and then tanked quickly, is deserved.

While some MDL users still say they are enjoying the Korean drama, most comments after Episode 9 range from:

Every 10 mins they do a “romance” scene where the couples just stare at each other dramatically, there’ll be slow mo and the same 1-2 songs… and I feel nothing. there’s no chemistry, no energy at all. at least the two main leads are kind and theoretically cute, but the second and third couples… I don’t see why they like each or how they came to like each other.

Such a strong cast yet the script is so leaky and so uninteresting that I am literally forcing myself to watch just for the visuals. The first few episodes had potential then it all went downhill. I am quite disappointed in how this is going.

No plot just vibes 😂.

Yes, sadly, with nine episodes now out, and only three more left to air, it looks as though The Divorce Insurance ratings are probably beyond saving.

The next episode of The Divorce Insurance, which stars Lee Dong Wook, Lee Joo Bin, Lee Kwang Soo, and Lee Da Hee will air on tvN and hit Amazon Prime Video internationally later on today.

Let’s see if it can resurrect itself a little more then, eh?

Meanwhile, check out the trailer for Episode 10 below. (Hit the auto-generated English subtitles, and it’s perfectly understandable).
