The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract Ep 1 – #1 in time slot with SOLID rating for its premiere

The new MBC drama The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract premiered last night to a very solid rating for its first of 12 episodes.

According to Nielsen Korea, The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract, Episode 1 earned 5.6 percent of the audience share nationwide, making it the 8th most-watched show on Korean TV on Friday, and placing it in the #1 spot in its time slot.

In Seoul, the new fantasy romance drama performed just as well, earning 5.3 percent of the audience, and making it the 7th most-watched show on TV in that region for all of Friday.

The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract also beat out its direct rival, the SBS drama My Demon, which premiered to a 4.5 percent rating nationwide, and a 5.1 percent in Seoul.

What is The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract?

The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract (열녀 박씨 계약 결혼뎐 in Korean) is based on the webtoon of the same name by Angelique and Kim Neo-ul.

It tells the story of Park Yeon Woo (played by Lee Se Young), a girl living in Joseon times who gets married in an arranged marriage to Kang Tae Ha (Bae In Hyuk), only to have her husband die the same night.

Hours later, Yeon Woo herself is attacked and pushed down a well, but then emerges in a swimming pool in a hotel in modern day Seoul to see a man who looks just like Kang Tae Ha standing before her.

Now trapped in modern day Korea, and in a strange twist of fate, Park Yeon Woo soon finds herself being asked by Kang Tae Ha to enter into a contract marriage with him.

The Story of Park’s Marriage stars the aforementioned Lee Se Young (The Law Cafe) and Bae In Hyuk (My Roommate is a Gumiho), alongside the stellar cast of Yoo Sun Ho, Oh Yu Jin, Jin Kyung and Joo Hyun Young in supporting roles.

The Korean drama airs on MBC every Friday and Saturday night through January 6th, 2024, with its next episode airing tonight at 21:50 (KST) on MBC.

Viki is streaming the romantic drama for international viewers where, after just one episode, it is already rated a 9.4 out of 10 by its audience.
