One of the many interesting things about the Korean drama Divorce Attorney Shin is that the protagonist used to be a classical pianist before he became a lawyer.
Something that is being referenced more and more as the drama continues, and as we start to see flashbacks of Shin playing the piano.
In Divorce Attorney Shin, Episode 6 there is another extended scene towards the end of the episode of Shin playing a classical piece of music during what appears to be a concert.
That piece of music is likely familiar to many who heard it, but also music you may not be equally familiar with when it comes to the title of the piece.
What is the classical music on Divorce Attorney Shin, Episode 6?
The music is a piece called Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 27 No. 2 “Moonlight” III. Presto agitato by Ludwig van Beethoven.
As the title suggests, it is the third movement of the sonato, with the first movement “Adagio sostenuto” likely the one you have heard the most.
Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 27 No. 2 “Moonlight” III. Presto agitato was composed in 1801 by the German composer in Vienna, Austria, a city he had called home for many years.
He was still only in his early 30s when the sonata was completed.
Upon completion, Beethoven dedicated the piece to Countess Giulietta Guicciardi, a young woman who was his piano student and also someone he was in love with at the time.
Due to the difference in their social status, however, the composer knew he could never pursue a relationship with her as her family would turn him down.
Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 27 No. 2 “Moonlight” III. Presto agitato went on to become a popular piece even during the composer’s life, and became even more popular after his death in 1827 at 56 years of age.
