A January, 2026 premiere date was also announced, meaning the anime is already well into its production.

The vibrant key visual features the adorably cute group of demi-humans — Tobari, Sui, Isaki and Kyouka.

They appear to be going a bit wild in the classroom, while protagonist and teacher, Rei Hitoma, stands at the blackboard attempting to teach them.

A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans plot

Unlike other anime adaptation announcement where we get bare bones information, extensive details about the upcoming supernatural fantasy anime have also been released.

The anime itself is based on the popular novel series, written by Natsume Kurusu and illustrated by Sai Izumi.

The series currently has four volumes out in Japanese, with Yen Press publishing it in English, along with its manga adaptation.

The first Japanese volume of its light novel series describes its wild sounding plot like this:

Rei Hitoma, a 30-something NEET with a traumatic relationship with others, transfers to a school in the mountains, brimming with nature, hoping to lead a leisurely rehabilitation life as a teacher, only to find out it’s an all-girls school where non-humans become human!?

“I spend my days with such strange students as Kyouka Minazuki, a mermaid; Isaki Oogami, a werewolf; Sui Usami, a rabbit; and Tobari Haneda, a bird.

Why do they want to become human? What do they want to do once they become human?

Through them, I learn about “humans.”

This isn’t an alternate world fantasy, nor is it a reincarnation story. It’s just the story of a teacher and non-human girls who aspire to become human at a slightly unusual school.
