Oh Jung Se won back-to-back Baeksang awards – for which two dramas?

Korean Drama Trivia #1

Many Korean actors go years before winning a Baeksang Arts Award, while others act their whole lives and never do.

After all, there are only a handful of Baeksang Awards given out every year and, most years, competition is tough.

Some actors, however, are so incredibly talented they earn more than one Baeksang.

Take Oh Jung Se (오정세), for instance.

Not only did he earn a Baeksang Arts Award just a few years ago, he actually earned back-to-back awards — meaning the veteran Korean actor won the same award two years in a row.

For his performances in two completely different dramas.

Which two dramas earned Oh Jung Se back-to-back Baeksang Arts Awards?

With the now 47-year-old actor having appeared in a huge number of superb dramas, and given stellar performances in all of them, it might take you a few minutes to figure out the roles he is likely to have been awarded the prestigious Baeksang for performing.

Those roles are two of his more recent ones — with Oh Jung Se’s first Baeksang Arts Award being given to him in 2020 for his performance as the unhappily married landlord No Gyu Tae in the KBS2/Netflix romantic comedy When the Camelia Blooms.

It was one of four awards that went to the drama at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards, with Oh Jung Se being awarded the Baeksang for Best Supporting Actor – Television.

The following year, Oh Jung Se won his second Baeksang award for Best Supporting Actor — Television, and so became one of a miniscule number of Korean actors who have won back-to-back awards in the same drama category.

That year (2021), the actor won the Baeksang for his amazing performance as a man with autism in the hit tvN/Netflix drama It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.

The two Baeksang awards, however, are just two of the 10 awards he has been given by various awards ceremonies since 2017.

And, as Oh Jung Se continues to grab interesting role after interesting role, and then perform them so well the character stays in your mind long after the drama has ended, it’s pretty obvious his two current Baeksang awards are not likely to be his last.

You can watch Oh Jung Se’s amazing performances in When the Camelia Blooms and It’s Okay to Not Be Okay on Netflix.
