Anime fans who love a mix of historical authenticity and cute supernatural creatures are likely to love the anime adaptation that has just been announced today.
That adaptation is of the smash-hit supernatural mystery novel series Shabake, with an anime series announced along with a trailer (watch below), a happy-looking key visual and its main staff.
According to the anime’s official website, the Edo-time-framed series itself is currently scheduled to premiere some time in 2025.
Along with the visual and trailer, the official website for the upcoming anime also had this to say about the novel series it is being based on:
The bestselling novel series Shabake by Megumi Hatanaka has sold more than 10 million copies in total.
In addition to winning the Yoshikawa Eiji Bunko Award and the Japan Fantasy Novel Award for Excellence, the series has been developed into a variety of media, including dramas, stage performances, and comic book adaptations, and now a TV anime adaptation has been decided!
In other words, while you may not be familiar with the series, it is highly likely a huge percentage of Japanese anime fans will be, which could make this one a huge hit.
Throw in that there are currently 65Â volumes of the novel series out in Japanese and, with its official website introducing some of the cutest characters you have ever seen, this one shows potential for new seasons being released for years to come.
Fingers crossed we may even get another long-running anime series as wonderful as Natsume’s Book of Friends.
That website explains the plot of the first volume of the novel series’ like this:
Ichitaro, a young master of a big store in Edo, is very frail and is always in bed. His protectors are a mysterious group of people who are invisible to the eyes of others.
But when the sales clerk is suspected of murder, Ichitaro can’t keep quiet, and so he immediately sets out to investigate. ……
The story of a sickly young master and his yokai friends, in this touching and humane yokai mystery book.
Shabake staff announced
