Listen to Halsey’s ‘Castle’ as Featured on ‘The Royals’ — Perfect

Badlands Halsey debut

Singer songwriter Halsey’s electropop song ‘Castle‘ was featured on E!’s The Royals this week — (Season 2, Episode 8 — “Be All My Sins Remembered“) — and, can I just say, could there be a more perfect song for this TV series? I mean, come on…with lyrics like this?

I’m headed straight for the castle
They wanna make me their queen
And there’s an old man sitting on the throne that’s saying that I probably shouldn’t be so mean
I’m headed straight for the castle
They’ve got the kingdom locked up
And there’s an old man sitting on the throne that’s saying I should probably keep my pretty mouth shut

But no, Halsey’s ‘Castle’ was not written for The Royals, or for anything even remotely royal-related. Instead, the track is from her debut album Badlands, which she released in August last year. An album that hit the number two spot on the Billboard 200 chart its first week out. The song itself is about Halsey and her relationship with the music industry.

And, if you are one of the three people on the planet under age 25 who doesn’t know who Halsey is, she is a 20-year-old American singer called Ashley Frangipane (Halsey is an anagram of her first name), who got her start uploading YouTube videos of herself doing covers.

A couple of years later, she came to the attention of the music industry, and eventually signed with Astralwerks, who she has been with ever since.

Currently she’s being talked about as ‘the voice of her generation’, which is a pretty big label to live up to. So far, though, she seems to be doing it pretty well.
