These songs by female singers help me hit certain emotions in my writing
Even though I was a radio DJ for the better part of a decade, and my life has always been wrapped around music, I don’t always listen to music when I write. But, if I do, it is more often than not music from female singers. Not that I don’t have a huge list of male singers and bands I adore, but female singers fit my mood more when the muse needs to be coming calling.
Female singers that have voices that are full of raw emotion, are often tragic, and that put me in a particular mood to write.
So, today, I decided I’d put together a Deezer list of 20 songs by female singers to write by. Songs that, more often than not, are mellow, heart-wrenching and sad. And maybe that’s why so much of what I write has that feeling of undercutting sadness. But I’m fine with that.
My list of 20 songs by female singers to write by includes songs by Sia, Pink, Ella Henderson, Kate Havnevik, Nargiz Zakirova, Birdy, Alanis Morrissette, Adele and, of course, two from Conchita Wurst’s debut album ‘Conchita‘, as it is my current obsession.
Songs like Adele’s ‘Hometown Glory‘, Birdy’s ‘Not About Angels‘, Australian singer Lenka’s ‘Nothing Here But Love‘, and classic Anita Baker with ‘You Bring Me Joy‘.
