The superstar K-pop group BTS has been named as one of the headliners of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, which will air live from New York’s Times Square on New Year’s Eve.
Joining BTS will be American rapper Post Malone, country singer Sam Hunt and Alanis Morissette, who will be performing along with the cast of the Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill.
Of course, BTS fans, who are known as some of the most enthusiastic in the world, must be beside themselves with happiness that ‘their boys’ have made it this far. Especially as 2019 has been quite a spectacular year for BTS.
So much so, being asked to appear on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve is just the icing on a stupendously spectacular cake for the boy band.
BTS had an amazing 2019
The group’s 2019 got into high gear when they were asked to be presenters at the Grammy Awards in February, and just a couple of months later became the first Asian artists to have more then five billion streams on Spotify.
Then in April, BTS released their sixth EP.
Called Map of the Soul: Persona, it gave the band an opportunity to be the first ever Korean artists to perform on Saturday Night Live, and was also one of the band’s three releases that made it to number 1 in the U.S. in less than a year.
BTS continued their success by winning two awards at the Billboard Music Awards. The band then kicked off a world tour in the summer, and had to quickly add more dates, as every concert on the tour sold out in just two hours.
Their tour ultimately did so well, BTS was named the world’s top-grossing touring group of 2019, grossing over $196 million worldwide.
Their mobile game BTS World was also released in June, along with the soundtrack to the game. That soundtrack album then hit the #1 spot on the South Korean album chart.
Last month, the band won the award for Favorite Duo or Group at the American Music Awards.
BTS are huge on social media
As for social media, the boy band were the most tweeted about artists of the year, and the views on their Bangtan TV YouTube channel are now at 3.6 billion with more than 24 million people following them.
They consistently post videos on YouTube, including behind the scenes footage of their latest dance rehearsals, which get tens of millions of views for every upload.
Not only have BTS been incredibly successful themselves in 2019, however, they have also brought immeasurable success and money to the South Korean economy.
According to the South Korean government, the band is worth more than $4.5 billion to the Korean economy as they not only bring in enormous sums of money from music sales, concert tours and merchandise, but it is estimated one in every 13 people visiting South Korea does so because of BTS.
No wonder then that BTS will be performing live during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, as the number of viewers they will bring to the show is enormous.
You can see BTS on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2020 on 31 December.
The show begins at 8 pm ET on ABC, and will continue on past midnight. More information on the official ABC page for the show.
