Artists all over the world have been singing Prince songs on stage in the last two days as a tribute to the artist who died at the age of only 57 on Thursday. No other tribute, however, could be as powerful as the cast of the Broadway play The Color Purple singing Prince’s ‘Purple Rain‘ on Thursday night.

The moving tribute to Prince was introduced by cast member Jennifer Hudson, who was a friend of the late musician, and who said about Prince,

“I did not expect to have to speak about this tonight but God has his way. As we all know, today we lost a legend, who was a good friend of mine. Prince. And not too long ago, he called me and asked me to come out to see him as he was writing his book, and he told me you can bring your cast members along.”

“And we all had the honor to be in his presence one last time. And we got to have that moment. So tonight, if you guys don’t mind, we’d like you to join us in honoring Prince. He said his music will live on, and he will live through his music. So we want to keep him alive today with his song”.

The cast then led an incredibly powerful performance of ‘Purple Rain‘, with the entire audience joining in the chorus.
