Christine and the Queens ‘Girlfriend’ on Top of the Pops is a standout performance

Watch Christine and the Queens perform ‘Girlfriend‘ on Top of the Pops New Year 2018

French  synth pop singer songwriter Christine and the Queens appeared on the Top of the Pops New Year 2018 special yesterday — Saturday, December 29th, 2018 — where she performed her hit single ‘Girlfriend‘.

Her performance, with its lovely 80s vibe, was the standout performance of the show.

Because it is not just that the hit track is danceable, catchy and cool, and Chris’s vocals superb as always, it is also that her backing dancers put on a phenomenal show.

Christine and the Queens’ ‘Girlfriend‘ is from her second studio album Chris.

An album that did extremely well commercially, and was also named best album of the year by The Guardian newspaper and placed on top 10 lists by other critics in the U.S., UK and Europe.

Other artists appearing on the show included Tom Grennan, Years & Years, Tom Odell, Rae Morris and Lewis Capaldi.

Christine herself is now going by the moniker Chris because, as she put it:

“It had to be Chris at some point because I was bolder and stronger and had more muscle… so it was natural for me to shed the rest of the stage name, and to cut my hair.”
