Conchita Wurst was in Madrid last week for a few days and, of course, Spanish journalists were desperate to get an interview with the lovely Frau Wurst, just like other journalists all over Europe.
With a plethora of ‘Conchita Wurst in Madrid’ interviews to choose from, one of the short ones I enjoyed the most, however, was one filmed with a small group of mainly radio journalists.
That’s because, not only did Conchita stand up for her Eurovision win when asked, yet again, the annoying question ‘Do you think you would have won if you didn’t have the wig and the beard?, but she had some cute answers to some of the other ‘usual’ questions as well.
One thing I will add, though, is I do wish journalists would stop asking her about the power of her wig and beard, and intimating she wouldn’t have won Eurovision without them. It’s impolite, it’s condescending and, frankly, it’s an attempt to belittle her Eurovision win and to make it seem insignificant. And they really need to get over it.
Conchita Wurst did win Eurovision. She did win Eurovision for all the right reasons and with an entire package of things (song, voice, staging, dress, personality, hard work, an excellent team and, yes, beard and wig), that ensured she came out well ahead of the pack.
Don’t like it? Tough.
But…..do watch the ‘Conchita Wurst in Madrid’ interview below. Silly questions aside, Conchita Wurst is lovely as always and a true joy to listen to.
