Death Cab for Cutie are doing the rounds promoting their upcoming album Kintsugi. On Wednesday, they were on Jimmy Kimmel Live singing ‘Black Sun‘, and the day before lead vocalist Ben Gibbard was at KROQ in LA playing acoustic versions of ‘Black Sun‘, ‘The Ghosts of Beverly Drive‘ and ‘I Will Follow You Into the Dark‘.
Gibbard’s performances of these three tracks from Kintsugi are some of my favorite live performances of recent weeks. His voice is just so true. And these songs are so dense and rich and yet simple and already perfect but then, with just the guitar, they are even more gorgeous.
And, no, as much as I write about music, I don’t recommend albums a lot as everyone’s music taste is different. But I’m recommending Death Cab for Cutie’s Kintsugi. I just bought it today and I know already it’s going to be one of my favorites for months to come.
You can pick it up on iTunes.
And now listen to Ben Gibbard sing ‘The Ghosts of Beverly Drive‘, ‘Black Sun‘, and ‘I Will Follow You Into the Dark’ below in the videos below. Aren’t those songs and that performance something special?
