A couple of decades ago, I was addicted to Elton John’s ‘The One‘. It was a sort of ‘our song’ for me and the man I was then engaged to so, of course, we played it all the time.
Plus, it had such beautiful lyrics — just read the first two verses:
I saw you dancing out the ocean
Running fast along the sand
A spirit born of earth and water
Fire flying from your hands
In the instant that you love someone
In the second that the hammer hits
Reality runs up your spine
And the pieces finally fit
Don’t you want to be in love with someone who makes you feel like that?
Nowadays, of course, Elton John’s ‘The One’ doesn’t have the same connotations it did back then, but it’s still a damned good song.
So much so, I’m playing it as my Repeat Rotation Video today.
‘The One’ is the title track from Elton John’s twenty third studio album — an album that did well for Elton when it was released.
Listen to it below. As always with every Repeat Rotation Video — loud, with headphones and with your eyes closed. Oh, and if you like, you can sing too.
