George Michael Buried at Highgate Cemetery 3 Months After His Death and with Family and Friends Gathering for Private Ceremony

British singer George Michael was buried today in a private ceremony at London’s Highgate Cemetery three months after he died from heart disease.

The pop star’s funeral was delayed while a battery of tests were done so that the coroner could be sure of the cause of his death.

Earlier this month, Oxfordshire coroner Darren Salter confirmed that Michael, age 53, died from complications arising from heart disease, and that there would be no further inquiries into his death.

The announcement opened the way for the family to begin planning his funeral.

According to Michael’s publicist, the singer’s family and close friends were in attendance at the private ceremony. Michael’s partner, Fadi Fawaz, was also at the funeral as was his Wham partner Andrew Ridgeley.

The funeral, which was arranged by Michael’s sister Melanie Panayiotou, was apparently kept secret as Michael’s family did not want to have it descended upon by hordes of grieving fans.

They did, however, release a message to Michael’s fans — “George Michael’s family would like to thank his fans across the world for their many messages of love and support.

We ask that the family’s wish for privacy be respected so that they can continue to live their lives privately, away from any media intrusion.
