Grimes Releases ‘Flesh Without Blood/Life in the Vivid Dream’ Video and She’s a Winged Marie Antoinette

Last week, Grimes released the artwork for her upcoming new album Art Angels. This week the Canadian artist has released the first video from the album – Flesh Without Blood/Life in the Vivid Dream – which features Grimes as a bloodied and winged Marie Antoinette. Sort of.

What’s even more striking about Flesh Without Blood/Life in the Vivid Dream, however, are the number of costumes Grimes wears during the course of a just over six-minute video.

One second she’s Marie Antoinette, complete with an orange and white dress, lilac wig and wings. The next she’s an angel in a white gown and a cowboy hat. Then she’s a suited and hatted gangster eating spaghetti and playing the air drums. And all of them covered in blood.

Interestingly too, she has combined two tracks from the new album on the video — numbers 4 and 13 — and used them as the first two acts of what looks like it could be an ongoing musical play.

Well it is Grimes, and that girl loves her art.

Which is obviously why she also had absolute creative control of the entire Flesh Without Blood/Life in the Vivid Dream video, in her roles as writer, director, editor, colorist and art-director — yep, she was all those things here. Because she really is that rocking.

In fact, the only other person who had any significant say so on the video was her brother Mac Boucher, her brother, who was the cinematographer and creative consultant.

As for Grimes’ Art Angels, the album will get a digital release on November 6th, which you can currently pre-order for only $9.49. The physical release will hit shelves on December 11th just in time for Christmas.
