Country singer Jason Isbell is not only riding high on the American country, rock and folk charts this month with his new album Something More Than Free, he’s also giving some kickass live performances of his latest singles.

Isbell’s latest appearance was on Conan on Wednesday night (August 12th) singing his new single ’24 Frames‘ and, although a stripped down version from the one on the album, and more rock than its usual country, Isbell still killed it.

Missing, of course, was Isbell’s wife Amanda Shires and her amazing fiddle. She had been advised by a doctor to stay at home as she nears the end of her first pregnancy.

And that was part of why ‘24 Frames‘ temporarily lost its’ country sound. That and his band the 400 Unit deciding to go the full indie rock route.

Personally, although I prefer the country twang of the original ‘24 Frames‘, I still loved Isbell’s Conan version. It was a bit less heartbreaking and a bit more mellow.

Watch Jason Isbell performing ‘24 Frames‘ on Conan in the video below. And, if you love what you hear, buy the album — it’s incredible.
