Joseon Attorney, Episode 1 ratings show the period drama off to a very good start

While not a massive hit for the South Korean broadcaster MBC yet, the new K-drama Joseon Attorney, Episode 1 ratings are out for last night’s show, and they show the period drama is off to a very good start.

According to Nielsen Korea, the Joseon Attorney, Episode 1 ratings show the drama earned 2.8 percent of the audience in its time slot nationwide, while in Seoul it also gained the same percentage.

The drama’s next episode will air later tonight in Korea.

Fingers crossed it will do as well, as the first few episodes are usually indicative of how well the rest of a drama will do.

What is Joseon Attorney: A Morality?

The South Korean period drama Joseon Attorney: A Morality (aka 조선변호사 in Korea) stars Woo Do Hwan, Bona, and Cha Hak Yeon.

It follows lawyer Kang Han Su who starts out practicing the law in a not-quite-ethical way but, as he begins to earn a reputation as a hero among commoners, he begins to realize true justice is more valuable than any monetary returns.

Meanwhile, one of his clients Lee Yeon Joo, hires him to exact revenge for her.

So far, international audiences also seem to be enjoying the show for its cinematography, story, costume designs and, of course, the chemistry between the two leads — Kang Han Su (played by Woo Do Hwan) and Lee Yeon Joo / Sowon (Bona).

On My Drama List, there are few negative comments (rare for that website) and comments left on Viki are also overwhelmingly positive so far.

Joseon Attorney: A Morality airs on MBC in Korea every Friday and Saturday at 21:50 (KST), as well as on Viki and Kocowa outside the country.
