K-drama Oasis, Ep 14 viewership increases as melodrama heads to its conclusion

K-drama Oasis, Ep 14 viewership holding steadier in Korea than outside

As the Korean period drama Oasis is heading rapidly towards its last two episodes, Oasis, Episode 14 aired last night and, boy, did it see a larger audience than its previous episode.

According to Nielsen Korea, Oasis, Episode 14 viewership was 7.7 percent of the audience share nationwide in Korea, with 7.4 percent in Seoul, meaning the drama grabbed almost 1 percent more of the audience share nationwide and a full one percent for Seoul viewers.

Oasis, Episode 14 did not seem to fare as well with international viewers, however, with My Drama List commenters slamming the writing and several stating just how much they detest the character of Choi Cheol Woong.

So much so, it is destroying their enjoyment of the drama.

Oasis has also dropped in the ratings on the site from a pretty steady 8.1 to 8.3 up until recently to a now 7.9 out of 10.

Quite a substantial number of viewers have also already dropped Oasis and moved onto other dramas.

To me, this seems to be yet another instance of Koreans simply enjoying over-the-top melodramas more than non-Korean audiences.

Especially western audiences, who usually prefer something more realistic than constant high drama going on among incredibly unlikeable characters.

Something about the Korean culture itself, and the country’s emphasis on han, maybe?

Oasis comes to an end next weekend

With Oasis, Episode 14 now aired, there are only two more episodes before the drama comes to an end.

Those episodes will air next Monday and Tuesday nights, April 24th and 25th, on KBS2 in Korea at 21:50 (KST).

Viki will carry the series finale episodes soon after for international audiences.
