Since its premiere on November 11th on KBS2, the ongoing drama Korea-Khitan War (aka Goryeo-Khitan War) has seen its ratings rise with almost every new episode.

So that, with the broadcasting of Korea-Khitan War, Episode 14 on Saturday night, the drama’s very solid 9.4 percent nationwide rating for that episode headed towards double the one it earned for its first episode. (5.5 percent)

It is also a rating that made the historical drama the second most-watched show on Saturday on Korean TV this week.

International viewers and Korea-Khitan War ratings

With the KBS2 drama still being difficult to find on legal streaming services in many regions of the world, the number of international viewers watching the drama is still much lower than those watching other also currently airing series.

That being said, those viewers who are watching it, however, have been consistently giving it solid ratings with users on IMDB currently rating the K-drama a very healthy 8.3 out of 10.

On Viki, where Korea-Khitan War is only streaming for those subscribers who have the Viki Pass Plus, the Korean drama is being rated an exceptionally high 9.6 out of 10.

Meanwhile, on My Drama List (MDL), where ratings are often lower than on other sites, the historical drama is still earning a solid 8.1 out of 10.

Comments about the drama on MDL are also overwhelmingly positive, with some viewers commenting how surprised they are to be enjoying it so much:

I started to watch this drama yesterday and 3 eps done so far. All I can say is WOW! I didn’t expect this to be good. I like it because it doesn’t have the traditional love couple thing. It is a pure action war historical theme.

while others on Viki talk about the acting, the plot and the dialogue:

This drama blew me away – in just about every way – the stellar casting and their acting. The war scenes, the suffering of the people, the emotions, the plots and the dialogues, the pace, they just knock my socks off. Seems every scene is a cliffhanger from the get-go.

The morals of key characters are also kept on such high grounds that you want to root for them. You want Goryeo to win the war.

and:

So far the “Korea-Khitan War” drama has gone beyond my expectations. This story is not meant to be a romance, feel good show. It’s a hard hitting, mostly factual historical depiction of two countries. One country (Khitan) trying to dominate the other. One country (Goryeo) trying to maintain stability and to support their people. Goryeo doesn’t want a war

Korea-Khitan War stars Kim Dong Jun, Choi Soo Jong, and Ji Seung Hyun.

The drama’s next episode will not air tomorrow (Sunday) as it usually would due to it being New Year’s Eve, but will instead air on January 6th, 2024.
