The sadly now-defunct American indie rock band Alabama Shakes’ ‘Shoegaze’ was one of the tracks played on last night’s Ted Lasso — Ted Lasso, Season 3, Episode 7, “The Strings That Bind Us“.
The song shows up as Jade leaves the restaurant looking for Nathan, but he doesn’t arrive. It continues as Keeley arrives back to her office to find it full of her favorite flowers. Yep, it looks like she is being “love bombed”, doesn’ it?
Alabama Shakes’ ‘Shoegaze’ was one of the 12 songs released on the band’s second and, as it turned out, final studio album Sound & Color. An album that came out in April, 2015 and almost immediately became Alabama Shakes’ first and only #1 album.
It went on to top the charts on four American charts, including #1 on the Top Rock Albums chart and the prestigious Billboard 200.
Sound & Color also ranked high on charts in over a dozen other countries, including in another of the world’s most important music markets, the United Kingdom, where it ended up at #6 on the UK Albums chart.
The album also appeared on a slew of important music critics’ Best of the Year lists at the end of 2015.
As if that wasn’t enough, Sound & Color went on to win three Grammy Awards.
All of this is why it was decidely odd when only a couple of years later Alabama Shakes went “on hiatus” primarily due to lead singer Brittany Howard deciding she wanted to pursue a solo career.
As of this writing, Alabama Shakes’ “hiatus” continues.
Listen to Alabama Shakes’ ‘Shoegaze’Â as heard on Ted Lasso on the video, and on the band’s Sound & Color album.
