The late legendary American singer songwriter Aretha Franklin’s ‘The Weight‘ was played on the season finale of 9-1-1: Lone Star this week — 9-1-1: Lone Star, Season 3, Episode 18, “A Bright and Cloudless Morning“.
The song was heard playing over the final scenes of the episode.
Aretha Franklin’s ‘The Weight‘ was written by The Band’s Robbie Robertson. It was released in August, 1968 on The Band’s debut studio album Music from Big Pink.
Franklin’s soul-style cover version of ‘The Weight‘ came out two years later on her sixteenth studio album This Girl’s in Love with You, and became a Top 20 hit single soon afterwards.
Not surprising, as it really is a helluva foot tapper and head bobber, and that melody is addictive.
The album itself was one of mostly cover songs, and was so loved by fan, it was reissued on CD in 1993.
