The British female pop trio Bananarama’s song ‘Venus‘ was featured on the new episode of Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce‘this week — Season 5, Episode 4, “It’s A Marathon, Not A Sprint“. It was the song that was heard playing during the photo shoot.
The song originally appeared on the trio’s third studio album True Confessions. Released in 1986, it was an interesting album for the women, as it was a flop in the United Kingdom but charted at number 15 on the Billboard 200 chart and was a big success in the U.S.
‘Venus‘ also made it to the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming Bananarama’s first number one single, and eventually getting to that spot in six other countries.
The song, which is a favorite for the women and was performed by them many times before they ever recorded it, has been re-recorded by the trio twice since. Once for their 2001 album Exotica, and again in 2005 for their ninth studio album Drama.
‘Venus‘ first hit the charts, though, in 1970 when it was originally recorded and released by Dutch band Shocking Blue, who managed to get it to the top spot in nine countries.
Listen to Bananarama’s ‘Venus‘ version in the official music video below. And yep, it’s still as fun as it ever was.
